LifeSteal Hearts — How the Heart System Works

CivSMP is a LifeSteal Server

Every heart on your health bar is something you can lose — and something you can take. On CivSMP, your maximum health isn't fixed. Kill a player and you take one of their hearts for yourself. Die, and you hand one over.

That single rule changes everything. There are no safe farms, no protected bases, and no fights that don't matter. Every encounter in the world has real stakes.

Check your current hearts at any time with /hearts.

The Core Rules

Event	Effect
❤️ You kill a player	+1 heart, taken directly from them
💔 You die to a player	-1 heart, given to your killer
🧟 You die to a mob, fall, or lava	-1 heart (no one gains it)
☠️ You reach 0 hearts	Temporary ban until you're revived

You start out on the standard 10 hearts (20 health points). From there it's entirely up to you — the best players on the server are walking around with health bars that stretch off the side of the screen, and every one of those extra hearts came from somebody else.

Heads-up: Your hearts and your Health stat from your playstyle and Skilltree are two different things. Hearts are the LifeSteal layer on top; stats fine-tune everything underneath. See the Skills & Stats guide.

Running Out of Hearts

Hitting 0 hearts means you're eliminated — you'll be kicked and temporarily banned from the server. It isn't permanent, and it isn't the end of your account.

To get back in, open a ticket in our Discord and request a revive. Staff will restore you and put you back in the world so you can start rebuilding.

A few things worth knowing before you get there:

• Your items, base, and balance are untouched — being at 0 hearts doesn't wipe your progress
• Your guild membership, levels, skills, and profile all survive the elimination
• Revives are handled by staff through tickets, so response time depends on when you ask

Don't Get Eliminated in the First Place

The players who last are the ones who treat hearts like a resource instead of a health bar.

• Bank your hearts by fighting up, not down — killing a fresh player nets you one heart; losing to a geared veteran costs you one just the same
• Disengage early — retreating at 4 hearts is free, retreating at 1 heart usually isn't an option
• Watch your mob deaths — creepers, lava, and long falls cost you a heart with nobody to blame
• Keep a backup kit stashed — respawning with nothing is how a bad fight turns into a bad week
• Log off somewhere safe — you are still a target while offline if someone finds your base

Farming Hearts Is Bannable

Hearts have to be earned in real fights. The following will get your hearts stripped and your account punished:

• Killing your own alt accounts to feed hearts to a main
• Boosting — arranging repeated kills with a friend to trade hearts back and forth
• Any exploit or duplication bug that produces hearts outside normal combat

If you find a bug that affects hearts, report it in Discord. We'd much rather reward you for the report than ban you for the abuse.

Combat Logging

Disconnecting while you're tagged in combat to avoid dying is treated exactly like running from the fight — because that's what it is. Combat logging carries penalties up to a temporary ban, and repeat offenders lose hearts on top of it.

If you're in a fight you can't win, run, block up, or pearl out. Don't alt-F4.

Final Thoughts

LifeSteal rewards players who pick their fights carefully and punishes players who don't. Build smart, fight smarter, and remember: every heart you're wearing used to belong to somebody else.
